You've probably heard of collagen. Maybe you know it as a hair, skin, and nail growth supplement, but is it really worth the hype? Let's dive into the facts and also some reallllyyyy good coffee.

Did you know that collagen is one of the most abundant proteins in the human body? Your body naturally produces it and it is what builds skin elasticity, connective tissue, and bones. However, as we age, production of collagen in the body slows down causing wrinkles and the breakdown of cartilage and joints.

Collagen has the amazing capability of acting like a bandaid in your body when taken the right form. There are two types of collagen: collagen peptides and a collagen supplement. What kind are you taking?

Collagen peptides (or hydrolyzed collagen) are broken down long collagen chains into shorter amino acids, making the collagen more bioavailable and easier for your body to use. Once absorbed into the bloodstream, the collagen is then transported throughout the body to build full-collagen helices, which are used to repair muscles, joints, cartilages, ligaments, and skin.

If you've ever looked at a container of collagen peptides, you may have noticed that there are usually about 20 grams of protein per serving, which is 10 grams per scoop. However, collagen is not a complete protein since it is missing a few key essential amino acids that contribute to protein synthesis in the body. But! It is great to supplement with every day in order to maintain strength in your joints, bones, heal your gut lining, and keep your hair, skin, and nails strong!

Collagen peptides are great to supplement with if you have a knee injury since the cartilage in your knees is made up of collagen. Taking collagen peptides consistently could help with a quicker recovery process!

My favorite way to add collagen peptides into my diet is to add a scoop or two to my coffee in the morning. I use an aerolatte hand frother so it blends well, froths my coffee even more, and then you can't even taste the collagen!

Here are allll the details you need to know to make my go-to morning coffee:

Morning Coffee

8 oz. your fave brewed coffee (my current faves are Docent and Counter Culture's Fast Forward) or a shot or 2 of espresso

Nutpods Dairy-Free Creamer (½ French Vanilla and ½ Caramel is the winning combo for me)

1 tsp. Bulletproof Brain Octane or XCT oil → MCT oil for focus and mental clarity

1 or 2 scoops of Vital Proteins collagen peptides

Sprinkle of cinnamon → to regulate blood sugar and avoid a blood sugar spike in the morning

Froth it all up with your hand frother or your aeroccino frother, pour it up, and then go kill the day! Get after it, friends!
